Volkswagen Navarra will launch a new weekend shift from 2027, bringing in more than 1,000 temporary workers. The agreement, reached between the company, trade unions and the Government of Navarra, responds to strong expected growth in the plant’s production, which will exceed 340,000 units next year.
Unprecedented production growth
The Landaben plant expects to manufacture more than 340,000 vehicles in 2027, up from 225,225 the previous year, driven by new models such as the Škoda Epiq — launched in June 2026 — and the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Cross. To meet this demand, the company will introduce a fixed 28-hour weekend shift (Friday 6am–2pm, Saturday 6am–4pm and Sunday 8pm–6am), paid as a full 40-hour week.
Over 1,000 new positions
The plan envisages hiring between 700 and 1,000 new temporary workers, according to union estimates, while the training programme backed by the Government of Navarra aims to prepare 1,050 people across five professional profiles. Current employees can apply voluntarily for the new shift until 11 September, before the external recruitment process opens.
A public-private commitment to industrial employment
The Government of Navarra has allocated €1 million to train the new workforce, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the growth of one of the region’s leading industrial engines and consolidating Navarra’s position as a European benchmark in automotive manufacturing.
