Navarra presented at BioSpain 2025 (Barcelona) a clear value proposition for companies and investors: to consolidate itself as Europe’s gateway to synthetic biology and a competitive bioeconomy hub, with the entire business and scientific ecosystem mobilised around the BioSintNA plan.
An ecosystem ready to scale
The region combines talent, infrastructure and public–private support: 10 companies and 10 startups represented Navarra at BioSpain, alongside anchor organisations such as CEIN, Sodena, the IRIS Hub, Navarra Health Cluster and Invest in Navarra. The BioSintNA roadmap aims to pool capabilities and attract industrial and R&D projects to generate high value-added employment.
Traction: figures and incentives
Navarra stands out for its strength in health and biotechnology: 31,500 jobs across the sector, over €3 billion in private revenue, 17.1% of patents, and more than 1,800 jobs linked to biotechnology and synthetic biology. Technology-entrepreneurship programmes, incentives and tax credits, and support for strategic R&D projects round out a pro-investment offer to accelerate set-ups and scale-ups.
State-of-the-art infrastructure
The Synthetic Biology Laboratory at the IRIS Hub, located at UPNA, offers the full research workflow—from gene synthesis to functional analysis—following a €5 million investment. Navarra is also promoting a Chair in Synthetic Biology at UPNA, and dedicated startup scale-up programmes through CEIN (HEALTH ScaleUp).
Deal flow and international collaboration
Startups such as Allbiotech, Betternostic, Nanogrow, Nucaps, Telum Therapeutics and Trimerbody Pharma, among others, showcased solutions to potential customers, investors and partners. In parallel, Sodena strengthened ties with sector venture-capital firms, expanding the region’s deal flow.
A reference point in the industry debate
On BioSpain’s official agenda, Navarra’s presence on an industry panel—bringing together R&D, startup and investment profiles—highlighted the steps needed to consolidate infrastructure, spur entrepreneurship and accelerate industrial development in synthetic biology.
