Ingeteam opens €25 million laboratory in Sarriguren, creating 200 jobs

Ingeteam

The group has opened a 12,000 m² centre in the City of Innovation to test and certify its electrification technologies. Its Navarra workforce now stands at 1,170, split between Sarriguren and Sesma.

The group’s testing ground

Ingeteam’s new laboratory in Sarriguren will test, validate and certify the systems the company develops for wind, solar and hydroelectric power. It will also cover battery storage, EV chargers and green hydrogen. The investment, made between 2024 and 2025, reached €25 million, up from an initial estimate of €10 million.

The facility serves the entire group and complements its laboratories in Zamudio and Beasain. It is five times the size of the Zamudio site and has absorbed the company’s former laboratory in Areta. CEO Adolfo Rebollo described it as “unique in the world, with the exception of China”.

Cutting-edge equipment

The laboratory has a 475 m³ semi-anechoic chamber, where the electromagnetic emissions of Ingeteam’s equipment are measured to ensure regulatory compliance. It also has climate chambers that reproduce extreme temperature and humidity conditions, and it tests large-scale converters for the marine sector.

Navarra grows in importance for Ingeteam

The project has brought 200 new employees to Sarriguren, where the company now employs 550 people. Another 620 work at the Sesma plant, which manufactures the converters designed and validated in Sarriguren. The group expects the Sesma workforce to keep growing in 2027.

Navarra’s President, María Chivite, said the investment marks “a significant step in consolidating Navarra as a technology-driven industrial region and a benchmark in the energy transition”. Ingeteam Chair Teresa Madariaga said she wants the centre to become “an international technological benchmark”.

Ingeteam has been present in Navarra since 1990. Headquartered in Zamudio, the group employs more than 4,000 people across 15 countries. It expects to reach a turnover of €1 billion in 2026 and will invest €50 million in R&D&I.
