Hithium’s energy storage project in Navarra has been provisionally awarded €81 million in European funding under the RENOVAL 2 programme of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. It is the largest grant allocated within this call, which is aimed at strengthening the industrial value chain of clean technologies.
The investment marks a further step forward for the company’s establishment in the region and reinforces Navarra’s position as a strategic hub for the development of energy storage technologies and the sustainable industrial transition.
Hithium’s project focuses on the manufacture of battery solutions and energy storage systems, a sector considered essential for the growth of renewable energy and the electrification of the economy. The initiative forms part of Europe’s broader strategy to strengthen industrial capabilities in key sectors linked to the energy transition.
The company’s future facility in Navarra involves an initial investment estimated at €400 million and the creation of around 700 jobs, with the potential to reach 1,000 positions in a second phase of development. In addition, the plant will be Hithium’s first facility within the European Union and its second outside China.
With this project, Navarra continues to strengthen its appeal for international industrial investment linked to high value-added sectors, supported by its strong industrial ecosystem, commitment to clean energy, specialised talent and solid public-private collaboration.
The RENOVAL 2 programme has awarded a total of €165 million to 41 projects across twelve Spanish regions, with Hithium’s project in Navarra receiving the highest amount of funding.
