Gelagri Ibérica, the Spanish subsidiary of French cooperative group Eureden and specialised in frozen vegetables, has completed the construction of a new cold storage facility at its plant in Milagro. The installation, spanning more than 5,000 sqm and standing almost twelve metres tall, incorporates a mobile-base racking system with capacity for around 12,000 europallets, and forms part of the €15 million investment announced by the company last year.
The new space combines mobile-base racking with drive-in compact shelving, a high-density solution designed to operate in a constant -24°C freezing environment, adapted to the traceability and stock-rotation requirements of the food industry. The system also includes a specific configuration for periods of lower activity, which promotes uniform cold-air circulation and helps maintain a stable temperature throughout the chamber, along with galvanised steel components built to withstand both extreme cold and corrosion.
The installation, developed by AR Racking — one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of industrial storage systems — was completed within nine weeks and is already running at full capacity. Both companies have highlighted the coordination maintained throughout the project as a key factor in delivering it on schedule.
EXPANSION IN MILAGRO
This upgrade is not the only investment under way around the plant. Last January, the Government of Navarra declared a project by Lineage, a global leader in temperature-controlled logistics, a matter of regional interest: a new freezing chamber and a packaging materials warehouse on an adjoining plot, representing an investment of €17.1 million. This facility, which will serve Gelagri Ibérica exclusively, will create at least fifteen jobs and is expected to become operational in the second half of 2027.
Gelagri Ibérica operates two production plants in Spain — Milagro, where it employs around 400 people, and Santaella, in Córdoba — with a combined annual output of more than 100,000 tonnes of packaged product, much of which is exported to markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Japan.
