The multinational company, based in Navarre, has partnered with Renewable Power Capital (RPC) to advance the “Kalanti 50MW/100MWh BESS” project, which aims to improve efficiency, minimise operational risks, and extend the lifecycle of the energy system serving the town of Uusikaupunki in southwest Finland.

Sungrow will supply 20 units of its 5 MWh energy storage system, housed in compact 20-foot containers that seamlessly integrate battery cells with power conversion systems (PCS). The company will also provide comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) services under a 15-year contract with RPC, ensuring long-term reliability, as well as maximum efficiency and performance for the project.

“This project marks a key milestone for energy storage in Finland, and it’s an honour for us to partner with RPC to introduce our latest liquid-cooled BESS technology to the market,” said Iker Labiano, Head of ESS at Sungrow Ibérica, headquartered in Pamplona. “With PowerTitan 2.0, we are not only offering a highly efficient and reliable storage solution but also reinforcing our commitment to the energy transition through safe, scalable, and intelligent BESS technology.”

Sarwjit Sambhi, CEO of Renewable Power Capital, added: “Finland is a strategic market for us. Its energy system needs efficient and well-managed storage solutions to fully harness its abundant wind resources. That’s why we are extremely pleased to collaborate with trusted partners with whom we enjoy excellent relationships. We look forward to working with Sungrow to deliver this key infrastructure for Finland’s energy system.”

Along the same lines, Iñigo Cayetano, Senior ESS Product Manager at Sungrow Ibérica, highlighted: “The system has already been successfully deployed in projects around the world, including Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and the UK, among others. PowerTitan 2.0 is an efficient, robust, and safe solution, making it a reliable and high-performance choice,” he concluded.

SUNGROW AND NAVARRE

The relationship between the region of Navarre and the world-leading supplier of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems has recently strengthened with the opening of a Technological Training and Innovation Centre in Pamplona. These state-of-the-art facilities reaffirm Sungrow’s commitment to its partners and, in particular, to its clients in Spain, Portugal, and Southern Europe. Company representatives emphasised that the initiative represents “a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to drive the energy transition and build a sustainable future,” while also expressing gratitude for the role played by Sodena—the public company of the Government of Navarre—in choosing the region as the destination for this investment.

NAVARRE’S RENEWABLE ENERGY ECOSYSTEM

Navarre is a pioneer and European benchmark in renewable energy production, with a long-standing technological and industrial commitment that has driven the development of new global standards in wind energy.

This sector is the third most important in the region, after the automotive and agri-food industries. It has a strong industrial network made up of more than 110 companies, accounting for 10% of industrial employment and generating a turnover of €4.5 billion—equivalent to 5% of the regional GDP. It is also the second-largest exporting sector in Navarre, mainly focused on the manufacturing of wind turbines and their components.

The region’s dense industrial fabric covers all links in the value chain, including a major renewable energy operator—Acciona Energía—and two leading OEMs: Siemens Gamesa and Nordex–Acciona Windpower. Additionally, a group of SMEs stand out for their high added value in specialised components such as blades, control systems, bearings, and gearboxes.
