The President of Navarra, María Chivite, met with Vinod Philip, CEO of Siemens Gamesa, to review the company’s contribution to the development of the wind energy sector in Navarra and the strength of the region’s renewable energy ecosystem. The meeting was also attended by Mikel Irujo, Regional Minister for Industry, Ecological and Digital Business Transition.

Siemens Gamesa, one of Navarra’s main employers, currently has 1,600 highly qualified professionals, whose work continues to strengthen the region’s position as a European leader in wind energy.

Following the institutional meeting, a working session was held with representatives of Enercluster, the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), and the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) to explore new avenues of collaboration and innovation within the regional renewable energy ecosystem.

Renewable energy: a strategic industrial pillar in Navarra

During the meeting, the Government of Navarra highlighted the comprehensive value chain developed in the region across all renewable energy technologies, noting that the strong industrial base already in place covers every link in the production process.

Navarra’s industrial capacity stands out in both onshore (wind turbines installed on land) and offshore (sea-based turbines) components. The region hosts specialised companies in cooling towers, foundry and forging, power converters, lifting and transport structures, and composites, all of which add significant value to Navarra’s wind industry.

President Chivite underlined that the renewable energy sector is the third largest industrial sector in Navarra, following automotive and agri-food, and boasts a strong network of more than 110 companies, representing 10% of total industrial employment and a turnover of €4.5 billion, equivalent to 5% of Navarra’s GDP.

She also emphasised that renewables are Navarra’s second-largest export sector, driven primarily by the manufacturing of wind turbines and their components.
