The Navarre-based company, a leader in energy storage with electric vehicle batteries, is taking a key step to consolidate its position in the global market and move forward in the creation of innovative business models. The investment has attracted new strategic partners such as Santander Climate Fund and Easo Ventures, in addition to the support of already committed entities such as Itzarri, Suma Capital, EIT InnoEnergy and Sodena. With this backing, BeePlanet will be able to address the growing demand for the reuse and recycling of electric vehicle batteries.
Since its founding in 2018, BeePlanet has stood out for its innovation in energy storage and circular economy technologies. In 2023, the company generated €5.7 million in revenue, created 46 high-skilled jobs and has participated in 10 European research and development projects. In addition, BeePlanet has installed more than 40 MWh of capacity in different energy applications.
In line with its mission, it launched the BeeCycle project in September 2024, a battery recycling plant in Caparroso, Navarre, in collaboration with local and international companies such as MEDENASA, TW Logistics and Samsung C&T. This facility, which will come into operation in 2026, will have the capacity to recycle up to 10,000 tonnes of batteries per year, contributing significantly to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
On the other hand, BeePlanet became the first company in Navarra to be certified as a B-Corp in July 2024, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and equality. It also received the ‘Equality in Business’ distinction from the Ministry of Equality, underlining its dedication to social inclusion and corporate responsibility.
With a projected 30 million electric vehicles in Europe by 2030 and the generation of 400,000 batteries per year for recycling, BeePlanet is positioned as a key player in the sector. Jon Asín, CEO of the company, said: ‘This round of financing will allow us to strengthen our global position and move towards a more sustainable energy model’.
Thanks to this capital increase, BeePlanet continues its journey towards the transformation of the energy industry, leading the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for a cleaner future.
THE RENEWABLE ECOSYSTEM OF NAVARRA
Navarre is a pioneer and European benchmark in the production of renewable energies, with a historic technological and industrial commitment that has driven the development of new global standards in wind energy.
This sector is the third most important in the region, after the automotive and agri-food industries, and has a solid industrial network made up of more than 110 companies, which represent 10% of industrial employment and generate a turnover of 4,500 million euros, equivalent to 5% of the region’s GDP. It is also the second largest export sector in Navarre, mainly in the manufacture of wind turbines and their components.
The existing dense industrial fabric covers all links in the value chain, including a large renewable energy operator, Acciona Energía, and two large OEMs: Siemens Gamesa and Nordex-Acciona Windpower. There is also a group of SMEs that provide high added value in specific components such as blades, control systems, bearings and gearboxes.
