Navarra strengthens its role as a European benchmark in biotechnology

The Minister for Industry and for Ecological and Digital Business Transition, Mikel Irujo, recently highlighted the “infinite potential of Navarra as a leading biotechnology region” during the strategic SIBERIA event held at Navarra’s IRIS Innovation Hub.

With an ecosystem that already brings together thousands of jobs in health, R&D&I and care services — around 31,500 in the region — and private sector turnover approaching €3 billion, Irujo pointed out that Navarra “doubles the European average in biotechnology specialisation.”

The Minister explained that this position provides a solid foundation to move forward with the business plan for synthetic biology, BioSintNA, which aims to consolidate Navarra as a European gateway to synthetic biology.

A competitive environment for biotechnology investment

Navarra offers an environment that combines scientific talent, specialised infrastructure and strong institutional support, making it a strategic location for companies and projects in the sector. The event brought together more than 60 professionals from technology centres, universities, public administrations and biotech companies, who explored innovative applications of biotechnology in health, food and energy.

Why develop your biotechnology project in Navarra?

  • Dynamic ecosystem with specialised employment and significant private turnover.
  • Institutional commitment to R&D&I and synthetic biology as drivers of future growth.
  • Regional culture of innovation, technology transfer and public-private collaboration.
  • European positioning and access to international networks.

We invite you to consider Navarra not only as a destination for growth — but as a strategic platform for leading in biotechnology.
