Hithium plans to start manufacturing energy storage systems in Navarra in 2027

Hithium

The Chinese multinational Hithium Energy Storage Technology, specialised in batteries and energy storage systems, plans to start its industrial operations in Navarra in 2027 as part of a project that could become one of the most significant industrial investments in the region’s energy sector.

The project involves the construction of a plant dedicated to the manufacturing of energy storage systems, with an estimated investment of around €400 million and the potential creation of up to 1,000 direct jobs across two development phases.

The initiative will be structured through a joint venture between the Asian company and the Government of Navarra, likely through the public development company Sodena, in a public-private partnership aimed at boosting the region’s technological reindustrialisation.

Although the exact location of the future plant and the final details of the investment have not yet been defined, the project is currently under negotiation and still requires several authorisations.

Boost for energy storage and industrial transition

The facility would focus on the production of battery energy storage systems (BESS), a key technology for integrating renewable energy into power systems and ensuring grid stability.

For Navarra, the arrival of Hithium would represent a new step in its industrial development strategy linked to the energy transition, further strengthening its position in areas such as renewable energy, energy storage and clean technologies.

The company views Navarra as a territory with a strong reputation in the energy sector and a favourable industrial environment, factors that have contributed to positioning the region as a potential European hub for these technologies.

If confirmed, the project would help consolidate Navarra as a strategic destination for international investment in advanced industrial sectors, particularly those linked to electrification and the energy transition.
