La productora de cárnicos Goikoa cuadriplica su inversión en refrigeración para consolidarse como empresa sostenible

Goikoa

Goikoa, a Navarre-based pork and poultry meat products company, has upgraded its refrigeration facilities and improved its energy efficiency by 45% after making a major investment with the aim of cutting electricity consumption and reducing the use of traditional, highly polluting refrigerants.

Thanks to this change, which endedin March after an investment of 800,000 euros, Goikoa has achieved an increase in energy efficiency of 45%, going from a consumption of 1,711 MW to 948 MW, and expects to save about 160,000 euros per year with current electricity prices.

Four times larger budget

The decision to make the leap to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable refrigeration system in Goikoa was taken a couple of years ago. The managers of the food company, with two factories in Sangüesa, had been looking for some time for alternatives for its refrigeration facilities, which were nearing the end of their useful life. Goikoa had already adopted measures to improve the company’s sustainability, such as the installation of 8,000 square meters of solar panels to contribute to the self-generation of electricity, with an annual production of 160,386 kWh.

But the company’s management preferred to go all out with a budget four times larger and completely change the installations because of the long-term advantages in terms of energy and economic savings.
