Navarra-based company specialized in food innovation, Cocuus System Ibérica, has raised 2.5 million euros in its first investment round thanks to its industrial technology for the production of plant- or cell-based animal protein mimetic food.
The investment round was led by the New York fund Big Idea Ventures, the U.S. multinational Cargill Ventures, the technology transfer fund Tech Transfer Agrifood and the accelerator Eatable Adventures.
Thanks to this capital injection, Cocuus will be able to scale its business model and gain presence in international markets to produce food with plant- or cell-based animal protein analogues, using 3D printing, bioprinting and robotics technologies.
About Cocuus System
Coccus System is a startup founded in 2017 in Cizur Menor (Navarra) specialized in designing industrial solutions for the production of mimetic food made of plant-based or cellular animal protein using 2D/3D laser printing, bioprinting and robotics.
The company was one of the participants in Orizont, innovation accelerator for the agri-food sector in Navarra managed by Sociedad de Desarrollo de Navarra (SODENA), the Government of Navarra’s financial instrument for business development in the region.
The firm manufactures solutions to respond to the challenges of the current environmental context, rethinking production methods to achieve a more sustainable and efficient food system. According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in order to feed a population of 9.1 billion in 2050, food production will have to increase by 70% and meat production by more than 200 million tons.
