South Korean multinational Mobis, the world’s sixth-largest automotive supplier, has reaffirmed its commitment to Navarra by increasing the number of jobs expected to be created at its new electric vehicle battery assembly plant in Noáin. This facility, the second-largest industrial investment of the century in Navarra, represents a strategic project for the future of electric mobility in Southern Europe.

A key investment for electric mobility

With an investment of €214 million, including €12.7 million from the PERTE VEC II programme, the plant will produce up to 360,000 battery systems per year. These batteries will be fitted into the latest-generation electric vehicle platforms of Volkswagen Navarra, and will also be available for other car manufacturers in Southern Europe.

The presence of Mobis further strengthens Navarra’s position as a hub for full-cycle electric vehicle production, at a time when Volkswagen and its supplier network are undergoing a major industrial transformation to electrify their ranges.

A competitive and attractive environment for investment

Mobis’s decision to establish itself in Navarra highlights the region’s competitive advantages:

  • Strategic location, with direct access to major European markets.
  • Robust industrial ecosystem, with leading companies in automotive, renewable energy, agri-food and health.
  • Institutional support and legal certainty, facilitating the launch of major projects.

In addition, strong public-private cooperation has been decisive in accelerating the construction and production schedule of the plant – a key factor for the project’s competitiveness.

High-level meeting in Seoul

The strength of this collaboration was underlined during a meeting in Seoul between the President of Navarra, María Chivite, and Mobis’s senior management, held as part of a visit by a regional government delegation to the Republic of Korea. The meeting helped to consolidate institutional and business ties and to explore new opportunities for cooperation between Navarra and South Korea.

Growth prospects and new projects

From its base in Noáin, Mobis aims to supply not only Volkswagen Navarra but also other manufacturers in Southern Europe, consolidating the region’s role as an international benchmark in the electric mobility value chain.

The Korean group, which operates 45 production plants worldwide, sees Navarra as an ideal starting point for future investments and technological collaborations.

Invest in Navarra supports this process, reaffirming the region’s position as a reference destination for the automotive industry and the energy transition.
