The purpose of this initiative by the regional government is to provide the airport with four new air connections —two domestic and two international. To achieve this, an investment plan has been set out, divided into €1.4 million in 2026 and €1.3 million in both 2027 and 2028, which will serve as the basis for a public tender to be published in the coming weeks on the European Union’s Procurement Portal.
The initiative is part of the Air Connectivity Roundtable, established in May as a public-private collaboration platform that brings together the Regional Government, AENA, the City Council, as well as representatives from the business, tourism, and academic sectors.
As for the planned destinations, at the national level the government intends to restore the connection with Barcelona and launch a new route to Andalusia (or alternatively to the Levante or southern Spain). For international flights, options under consideration include London, as well as destinations in Germany or Italy.
The forecast is that the new routes will become operational from April 2026, enabling Navarra to be directly connected with other national and international hubs, while also enhancing its intercontinental links.
According to the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Luis Arasti, this initiative represents a strategic commitment that will promote job creation, territorial cohesion, and the international projection of the region.
