Navarra promotes wind power innovation with the accreditation of NabraHub as a new Business R&D&I Unit

The facility, developed by Nabrawind Technologies, is the ninth unit of its kind within the Regional Innovation System (SINAI) and the second specifically dedicated to renewable energy. Its purpose is to promote local talent, advanced research and the strengthening of the innovative industrial ecosystem in Navarre. In this regard, it will receive more than €70,000 until 2028 to develop a project focused on the monitoring, dynamics and validation of the dynamic performance of XXL wind turbines.

With this new integration, the Regional Community reinforces its commitment to business innovation as a driver of the energy transition, consolidating its position as an international benchmark in clean energy and advanced industrial technology.

At present, SINAI has 42 accredited agents, including universities, research centres, health institutes, technology centres, UIE and unique entities, coordinated by the public company ADItech.

Based on this, the following ‘Strategic Objectives’ have been established for NabraHub

  • Consolidate and strengthen Nabrawind Technologies’ R&D&I activity, enhancing its technological and industrial capacity.
  • Remain at the forefront of emerging technologies and improve the efficiency of innovation processes.
  • Attract and retain specialised R&D talent (the initial workforce will include five highly qualified professionals).
  • To promote collaboration within the regional ecosystem: it will work synergistically with other UIE, technology centres such as CENER, unique entities of SINAI, ENERCLUSTER and the UPNA Chair of Renewable Energies.

On the other hand, NabraHub will incorporate an industrial doctoral student thanks to a grant from the Department of University, Innovation and Digital Transformation.

Since its creation in 2014, Nabrawind has developed more than 15 international patents and has led strategic projects funded by the regional government. In 2024, it exceeded €5 million in turnover, with a client portfolio that includes companies from France and Denmark.

NAVARRA’S RENEWABLE ENERGY ECOSYSTEM

Navarra is a pioneer and European benchmark in renewable energy production, with a long-standing commitment to technology and industry that has driven the development of new global standards in wind energy.

This sector is the third most important in the region, after automotive and agri-food, and has a solid industrial network made up of more than 110 companies, representing 10% of industrial employment and generating a turnover of 4.5 billion euros, equivalent to 5% of regional GDP. It is also Navarre’s second largest export sector, mainly in the manufacture of wind turbines and their components.

The dense industrial fabric covers all links in the value chain, including a large renewable energy operator, Acciona Energía, and two major OEMs: Siemens Gamesa and Nordex-Acciona Windpower. There is also a group of SMEs that provide significant added value in specific components such as blades, control systems, bearings and gearboxes. Anyone interested in further information about the renewable energy ecosystem in the region can find it at this link.
