From oils and vinegars to wines, meat and dairy products, the various companies held over 150 meetings aimed at discovering and tasting products originating from the Chartered Community of Navarre. During these meetings, the Regional Minister for Industry and for Ecological and Digital Business Transition, Mikel Irujo, highlighted the value of the entire ecosystem that Navarre offers as a leading community in the agri-food sector: “With an annual turnover of €4.5 billion, plus €1.129 billion from the primary sector, Navarre provides a strong agri-food base that covers practically the entire value chain, from the primary sector to the agri-food industry.”

Minister Irujo added that “the agri-food sector is the second most important area of Navarre’s economy, accounting for 5% of total regional GDP and 14% of Industrial GDP. It is a dynamic sector where exports of agri-food products from Navarre represent 12% of total exports, growing at a rate of 40% annually since 2014, surpassing other sectors in Navarre.”

This commercial initiative was aimed at Navarrese companies offering gourmet food and drink, with a focus on the production of preserves, wine, oils and vinegars, dairy, meat, and confectionery products. Attending the event were Navarrese agri-food companies such as Aceite Artajo, Aceites Sandúa, Ardiarana, Beripan, Biosasun, Bodegas Navarrsotillo, Bodegas Piedemonte, Bodegas y Viñedos Quaderna Vía, Conservas Medrano, Conservas Rosara, Ecovinal, El Caserío, El Navarrico, Embutidos Hortanco, Grupo Vitilia, Hacienda Ortigosa, Manantial Salado, Nekeas, Quesos La Vasco Navarra and Tikal Nuts.

This was the first time that the Navarre International Plan had organised a trade mission of this scale, bringing together in Navarre such a broad variety of gastronomic cultures and countries — including India, France, the United States, and Mexico — all in one space.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR

Navarrese companies cover the entire value chain from the primary sector to the agri-food industry. Among them are the two largest frozen vegetable producers in Spain (Ultracongelados Virto and Congelados de Navarra), the leading cereal cooperative group (Grupo AN), the aforementioned global leader in the manufacture and marketing of food casings (Viscofan), whose sales reach over a hundred countries worldwide; Spain’s leading company in fresh ready-to-eat salads and vegetables (Florette); and top-tier multinationals such as General Mills, Gelagri, Mondelez and Agrozumos.
