Navarre allocates 9 million euros to start up the future Centre for Industrialisation and Robotics applied to Construction and Architecture

Centro de Industrialización y Robótica

The initiative is financially supported by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union Next Generation-EU, with funds from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Department of University, Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Government of Navarre. The purpose of this facility, once it is operational, is to promote the transformation of the economic and productive model of the construction sector, seeking an increase in the quality of construction, cost adjustment and the development of sustainable building.

With the promotion of this project, the Regional Government aims to encourage training, research and innovation in the sector, in order to advance and incorporate industrial processes in architecture that serve to improve traditional construction systems, with more productive, sustainable and efficient processes. The aim is to incorporate technological, digital and robotisation advances in construction.

In order to turn this centre into a national benchmark in industrialisation and robotics applied to construction and architecture, the Department of University, Innovation and Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Housing and the Urban Agenda recently signed a collaboration agreement to set it up. Just before this signature, the BAI Foundation was set up and its general director, the engineer Aritz González, was hired.

Modular construction and 3D printing

The Building and Architecture Institute will be built in the former premises of Transportes Iruña, located on the Pamplona campus of the Public University of Navarre. This centre will enable the implementation of technological solutions such as robotics, 3D printing and modular construction to improve the quality of buildings, promote the use of sustainable materials, reduce occupational risks and promote the inclusion of women in the sector.

Construction employed almost 17,000 people and generated a production value of more than 2.4 billion euros in 2022, according to the latest data from the Navarre Institute of Statistics (Nastat). In one of our recent reports, we set out the key factors that will make Navarre a benchmark in the industrialisation of construction. Anyone interested can access this analysis via this link.
