The Spanish Film Academy has chosen Pamplona to host the next Goya Awards ceremony, which will take place on Saturday 6 February 2027 at the Navarra Arena. Announcing the decision, Academy president Fernando Méndez-Leite highlighted Navarra’s close ties with cinema, as home to figures such as Alfredo Landa, Montxo Armendáriz, Fernando González Molina and Helena Taberna.

The ceremony will bring together much of the Spanish film industry and will be broadcast by RTVE. By way of reference, last year’s edition in Barcelona drew some 3,000 people. The Navarra Arena will be transformed to stage an event of this scale, and the Government of Navarra is preparing a programme of related activities in Pamplona and other towns across the region.

A leading region for cinema

According to María Chivite, President of the Government of Navarra, the decision confirms that the region is “positioning itself as a leading region for cinema”. “Navarra is not just an exceptional natural setting; it is also a creative, industrial and cultural region capable of attracting and producing films,” she said.

Navarra’s audiovisual sector shares this view. Juan San Martín, president of the Navarra Association of Audiovisual Producers, described the choice as “recognition of the efforts made in Navarra over many years to build a solid film industry, with talent, companies and the capacity to drive its own projects”.

Rebeca Esnaola, Minister for Culture, said she was confident that “Navarra is ready” for an event of this scale. The region has already hosted other national ceremonies, such as the Max Theatre Awards and the MIN Independent Music Awards.
