Volkswagen Navarra officially began series production of the ID.Cross this Friday, 18th September \u2014 its second 100% electric model assembled in Landaben \u2014 at an event attended by the CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Thomas Sch\u00e4fer. The Navarra plant expects to reach record production figures from 2027 onwards.<\/h3>\n

A milestone within the group’s strategy<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President of Volkswagen Navarra, Michael Hobusch, described the launch as the beginning of “a new industrial reality”: together with Martorell and Palmela (Portugal), Landaben now forms part of an Iberian hub that will manufacture cars for all of the group’s brands, with the aim of reaching a combined annual output of one million vehicles.<\/p>\n

The ID.Cross, in figures<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ID.Cross is a 100% electric B-segment SUV, with a starting price above \u20ac25,000, designed for urban and peri-urban mobility but with fast-charging capability for long journeys. The model, which has already been in production in growing volumes for around three weeks, fills a significant gap against Chinese and European competitors, with strong demand expected across major markets on the continent.<\/p>\n

Four models, two technologies, one single line<\/strong><\/p>\n

Landaben has invested more than \u20ac1 billion and three and a half years of work to integrate four models \u2014 two combustion models (T-Cross and Taigo) and two electric models (\u0160koda Epiq and ID.Cross) \u2014 on a single assembly line, capable of dedicating up to 100% of its capacity to either propulsion type depending on demand. “Very few plants in the world are able to produce four models across two different technologies,” Sch\u00e4fer stressed. With this flexibility, the plant expects to exceed 360,000 vehicles in 2027, a figure the most optimistic forecasts put as high as 400,000 units.<\/p>\n

Why it matters<\/strong><\/p>\n

This ability to combine four models and two technologies on a single line, without dedicated lines per propulsion type, is a differentiating asset compared with other European plants and reinforces Navarra’s role within Volkswagen’s new Iberian industrial architecture. As Hobusch summarised, “Navarra is a benchmark in the automotive industry.”<\/p>\n
