Following the decision by the Chinese company China Minmetals (CMC) not to continue with the joint venture that envisaged the development of this potash mine, Geoalcali has reiterated its willingness to go ahead with the Navarre operation on its own. \u2018The complexity of the process and the scale of the project have made close collaboration with the authorities and public officials essential since 2011,\u2019 said Carles Alem\u00e1n, CEO of Geoalcali.<\/p>\n
The company points out that it has been working on the initiative for more than 14 years and has already invested some \u20ac150 million in the area. In its view, the support received from various administrations and political forces since the start of the project is essential to ensure the viability of an operation which, in addition to its economic impact, has a strategic dimension for Spain and the European Union.<\/p>\n
In this regard, the company highlights Muga’s contribution to food security and European sovereignty in terms of potash, a critical resource for which the EU currently depends on countries such as Russia and Belarus.<\/p>\n
