The Swedish hygiene and forest products multinational SCA has extended its factory located in Allo, Navarra.
In recent months the company has made major investments in its plant at Allo, installing additional production lines to increase production capacity by 100% and building a new, fully-automated International Distribution Centre (IDC).
The new warehouse, in which SCA has invested 18.5 million euros, covers 13,000 m2 and will store products manufactured in the plant for their later distribution in the Spanish market and other neighbouring European countries. As a result, Colhogar, a brand produced in Allo for several years, will share space with products for Eroski and Mercadona (SCA is an integrated supplier of Mercadona).
The new centre will process up to 150 pallets per hour and load 8 trucks in that time. The new eight-level facility has a total capacity of 23,000 pallet bases, i.e. around 600 trucks. On each level, an automatic trolley moves the pallets horizontally along the 130-metre length of the warehouse.
Thanks to the investment by SCA, the plant has increased its workforce by 50% since its acquisition from Georgia Pacific in 2012. It currently employs around 410 people.
As SCA Plant Manager in Allo Juan Pablo Gallego says, “this is the biggest investment by SCA in the factory since the company acquired it three years ago. This means that we can strengthen our position as one of the main production centres of SCA in Spain and reinforce our commitment to Navarra, making the company one of the biggest employers in the region”.
