A LEADING REGION IN INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
Navarra is the second Spanish region in terms of expenditure on R&D per capita: 1.73% of its GDP in 2017. It is ahead of larger regions such as Madrid and Catalonia and is only behind the Basque Country.

The private sector leads R&D activity with 68 % of the total expenditure on R&D.

times reaching a total of more than
professionals in the last ten years.
The Government of Navarra has provided continued support for R&D over the last 45 years:
- Navarra has recently approved the Foral Law of Science and Tecnology focus on the Navarra innovation system, to promote its excellence and position Navarra as regional lider in Europe.
- Navarra has very efficient infrastructures:
- Its network of Technology Centers has recently been restructured
- The city of Pamplona has a Science and Technology Park
Navarra is one of only two Spanish regions (together with the Basque Country) to receive the grading of “Innovation Follower” (the second best possible) from the European Union in 2014.
Navara innovation system comprises 11 centers: 6 tecnological centers, 3 research centers and 2 universities grouped in 4 sectors: Agrifood, Health, Renewable Energy and Automotion and Mechatronics.
This network consists of 950 researchers and represents revenues of 72 million euros a year.
